Oil Painting Workshops

I am launching a new series of oil painting lessons with a block-based format: Each block will run over three consecutive weeks, with the same model and same pose each week, at my studio in Stillingfleet.

The structure is designed to give students a chance to focus on each stage of the process, with the goal of completing a painting by the end of the block.

Week 1: Sketching, composition, and underpainting

Week 2: Values and colour correction using primaries

Week 3: Medium shapes and detail work

Cost: £120 for the full 3-week block

Includes: Life model, tuition, coffee, tea and materials (though you’re welcome to bring your own)

March - Portrait Workshop, Oil Painting

This workshop for painting portraits in oils involves learning how to mix skin tones, understand facial proportions, and capture a likeness from a live model. We will cover techniques like blocking in the head, glazing for shadows, and impasto highlights, and often include guidance on choosing materials and understanding the oil painting process.

The times are:

Saturdays 21, 28 March and 4 April (3 to 5 pm)

Life Drawing / Oil Painting

Participants observe and paint from live nude models, allowing them to study proportions, and light/shadow interactions in three dimensions.

Students learn and refine oil painting techniques covering aspects like blocking in shapes, color mixing (especially for skin tones), layering, and impasto techniques.

Thursdays 14, 21 and 28 May (3 to 5 pm) .... or
